God began dealing with me early in 2012 about walking the walk of faith when it comes to finances. I can tell you I was not very happy about this idea. I felt that it was my duty to get a "normal" job and take care of myself. Part of this reluctance was that my parents have lived this way and in some ways it was a sacrifice. For this reason God gave me a dream about this in which the walk of faith was like walking the Appalachian Trail, people who walk this trail sacrifice many things but they do so willingly and only for the satisfaction that comes from completing one of the most difficult hikes in the world. But we who set out for God receive a much greater satisfaction from completing the path of faith.

Appalachian Trail Dream
12/22/2012

In my dream I was preparing to hike the Appalachian Trail. I was trying to work out how I would get food along the way. I thought about calling home and having them mail food to me along the trail ahead but this seemed impractical. Then I thought about using my iphone to order food online and have it mailed to me along the trail but then how could I pay for it? Then I saw myself at some places on the trail going through ripe harvest fields along the trail and picking all that I needed as I went. I was then taken in my thoughts to an incident that I remember from Australia. I was working at a cherry farm and my Dad had come in the car to pick me up and he reached out his window and picked some cherries. He felt bad about that so the next day he talked to the farmer saying sorry for not asking but just taking. The farmer responded by giving my Dad a huge crate full of cherries. It was more than we could use. Then in my dream the farmer spoke, “I am a generous man, you know that.” I realized that the farmer was actually the Lord.

I have come to understand the dream to mean that I am embarking on the narrow road (path) of faith that many before me have followed. Historically the Appalations were a barrier to the westward expansion of the U.S. And today, of the many people who set out to complete the through hike, (2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine) only one in four completes it. God is encouraging me to endure and trust Him for my provision as I minister to the lost (ripe harvest). The Lord will provide me with more than I need. (basket of cherries).

So in the light of this, I do not ask you, but the Lord of the harvest to provide, and if you sense our Lord leading you to be part of His provision then below are instructions on how to do so.
